≅ lovers ≅
I need to get this off my chest right away. I absolutely hate the romantic relationship between these two. I think that saying they're in love is demeaning to the relationship they actually have and I really don't enjoy it at all. This type of relationship, like so many others, is completely and entirely fanbased. There are absolutely not implications to their gayness for each other within any form of media this series is presented in (and that's saying something because Abyss has so much subtext, it's hilarious). I don't hate on those who enjoy it and I have nothing against those that do. I just had to say it aloud for others to know and understand. However, for those that do enjoy the idea of a romantic relationship, I have figured out as follows. Generally, the relationship is always about control. It's not really all that lovey dovey and is usually either angsty or a bit cynical or about sex (which I'm not saying is a bad thing). I find this to be pretty accurate. i think these characters couldn't mesh neatly into the sort of romantic relationship fandom wishes and I'm glad that people do not push for it. They keep the rivalry, they keep the respect, they keep the strong ties. For this, I highly respect it. The only part I disagree with is the idea of Jade as the submissive partner. I understand that it being a fanbased couple, they love to see someone in charge and the obvious choice would be Peony, right? I don't think so. If you think personality wise and not position, Jade would be the dominant one. He's too stubborn, too full of pride and far too intelligent to allow himself to be broken in a sense to anyone. I believe it should be the reverse. However, everyone has their difference of opinion and I respect that. They may think that Jade should be the submissive one for either potion, fantasy or physical purposes. Whatever the case may be, their fans love it. |
